Campania & Jones

This is a post I have been meaning to write since I launched this blog but also one I am a little reluctant to share. Purely because it is my favourite little restaurant and I like that it is still a bit of a hidden gem.

If you have visited Columbia Road Flower Market on a Sunday, I am sure you have wandered past this little restaurant. During the summer months, you'll find people spilling over onto the pavements, with local buskers performing - such a great atmosphere and definitely worth stopping to soak it all up when visiting the flower market. However, you'd be lucky to get a seat at Campania on a Sunday but the rest of the week, like Columbia Road itself, quietens out.

During the day Campania is a usually filled with a few locals catching up over a coffee and is also a great quiet spot to come and work / read a book. You can also watch fresh pasta being made each morning in the back room.

The menu changes daily and usually comprises of around five starters, five mains and of course olives and fresh bread (it wouldn't be an Italian meal without them). While the menu may be small, there is a good variety of both meat and veggie dishes. Plus, with it changing daily, it is great for regular visits and often makes you try something you wouldn't necessarily! Or like me, will force you out of ordering the exact same meal every time you visit.

The interior reminds me of the rustic italian countryside, with brick walls, simple wooden furniture and fresh flowers. During the evening, candles are lit and is a perfect spot for a date! Also the back room can be hired out for larger parties (definitely on my list of things to do!). The atmosphere is really what makes this place such a gem.

As the menu often changes it is unlikely you'll come across the exact meals I have had but I do recommend the Asparagus and Ricotta Tortellini and Lamb Ragu (not forgetting bread and olives!). There is also a great lunchtime deal with 2 courses for £15.

Definitely worth a visit and be sure to book!
